FAQ · D.C.
Does Washington DC count as a state visited?
No. D.C. is trackable. It is not in /50.
PlacesLit is a 50-state scoreboard with a capital pin. Mark the pin if you’ve stood there. The badge appears next to N / 50. The percentage does not move. That is the same rule the live US map uses — not a footnote we added for search.
- Does Washington DC count as a state visited?
- No. PlacesLit tracks D.C. on the US map, but it is not one of the 50 states and never increments the /50 score or the percentage.
- Can I still mark D.C. if I’ve been?
- Yes. Tap the D.C. pin and paint Visited, Lived, or Want. It appears as its own badge next to your N / 50 count.
- Why is D.C. on a states map at all?
- People stand there. The map would feel dishonest if you couldn’t mark it — and equally dishonest if it padded a 50-state score.
